BestStorefrontThe technology behind better commerce.

Methodology

Evidence before verdicts.

Our process separates source-based research, hands-on evaluation, commercial relationships and final editorial judgment. Each page states which stage it has reached.

01

1. Source-based research

Editorial overviews are built from first-party sources only: official product sites, pricing pages, help documentation, policy pages and seller documentation. They describe scope, audience, workflows, pricing models and alternatives. They are not hands-on reviews, and they carry no score or star rating.

02

Current testing status

No product in the current software directory has completed BestStorefront hands-on testing. Every product page shows an “Our evidence” table; for every current page the hands-on rows read “Not tested”.

03

2. Testing identity

Every hands-on test records who tested, the plan used, the account type (free, trial, paid, vendor-provided or other), and the dates testing started and finished. Vendor-provided access is disclosed on the page.

04

3. Setup testing

We document onboarding: account creation, connecting a store or data source, initial configuration and the time and skills required.

05

4. Core category-specific workflows

Each category has a standard protocol of representative tasks. For storefronts, that means building a catalog, configuring shipping, tax and payments, placing and refunding an order and exporting data. For lifecycle tools, it means importing contacts, segmenting, sending, automating and handling consent. Support, analytics, conversion, fulfillment, payments, hosting, marketplace and inventory tools each have their own task list. Product-specific tasks are added on top.

06

5. Pricing and invoice reconciliation

Published prices are checked against first-party sources and dated. When we pay for a product, we reconcile the invoice against the published price. Prices that vary by region, account, category or promotion are shown with those conditions; promotions are never presented as recurring prices; conflicting official figures are shown as conflicting rather than forced into a single number.

07

6. Support testing

We contact the vendor's support through the channels available on the tested plan and record the channel, the question and the response.

08

7. Exit, cancellation and export testing

We test how data is exported and how the plan is cancelled, including any notice periods, retention or charges after cancellation.

09

8. How a page moves through stages

Independent editorial overview → Testing in progress → Hands-on review → Re-tested / updated. A page changes stage only when the recorded evidence supports it. Scores appear only on a finished hands-on review that meets our framework.

010

Commercial disclosure

Affiliate and sponsored relationships are disclosed on the page where an affiliate link is used. They never purchase a rating, ranking, comparison outcome or recommendation. Pricing and source citations always link directly to first-party pages.

011

Updates

A last-verified date changes only when the underlying source was actually re-checked. Sources that cannot be read automatically are queued for manual verification rather than treated as confirmed.

Operator context

Historical operating experience—such as the Outlaw Masks founder case study—informs the questions we ask. Operator experience does not substitute for current testing of a product's plans, features or integrations.

Independent by design

Better decisions start with clearer information.
